30 Most Affordable Online Bachelor’s Degrees in Accounting

With the rising cost of college and the legitimacy and convenience of online degrees, we thought it would be helpful to rank online accounting bachelor’s degrees by tuition cost.

In our findings, we found that there is a great selection of online degrees with reasonable prices. Plus, students are able to save time and money by avoiding the commute to a physical campus.

We looked at over 80 regionally accredited schools to create this ranking. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there was a lot of variety within the schools with the lowest tuition. You will find small, big, public, private, nonprofit, and not-for-profit schools within our top 30 ranking.

#1. Western Governors University

Western Governors University (WGU) gets its name from its origin story. It was founded in 1997 by 19 state governors of the western region of the United States. This unprecedented collaboration between top state officials was borne out of the need for distance learning solutions for the region. Today, WGU serves thousands of students from all 50 states.

Online Program Overview

WGU offers a Bachelor of Science in Accounting for accountants who desire to earn a degree to further their careers. Also, the program is geared for people who want to become accountants in the corporate world.

The university uses a unique education method to progress students towards their degrees. Instead of taking traditional classes, students finish assessments like tests and papers to demonstrate their skills. Each student is assigned a mentor who helps create a degree plan and provides recommendations for resources to learn the required competencies.

#2. Chadron State College

Since it was founded in 1909, Chadron State College has used the latest technologies to provide education. Shortly after the school’s founding, professors traveled by car and airplane to teach classes. Later, the school used television. Today, Chadron State College offers over 160 courses online.

Online Program Overview

Chadron State College has two choices for students interested in a bachelor degree in accounting. You can earn a Bachelor of Arts with an Accounting Option. This program covers typical accounting subjects such as Accounting Information Systems, Cost Accounting, and Auditing.

The other option, the Certified Public Accounting Path, is for students interested in passing the CPA exam. This option consists of 150 hours including 10 accounting courses to prepare you for the exam.

The bachelor accounting program offered by APU requires 122 credit hours to finish. One of the courses is Foundations of Online Learning, which gives students a strong foundation for navigating and understanding the online classroom.

Online Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from West provides a global perspective of the accounting profession. Students will learn both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) of the U.S. and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and compare them with each other.

The university has classes in forensic accounting, corporate taxation, and governmental fund accounting.

Accounting majors at Columbia College are required to take 18 semester credit hours (six courses) of accounting coursework. Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, and Managerial and Cost Accounting are the three required classes. The rest of the major consists of elective courses. You can choose from nine courses to fulfill the major requirements.

Classes last eight weeks and they have start dates in January, March, June, August, and October. This type of arrangement allows you to start earning your degree quickly without waiting many months before taking your first class.

USW’s Bachelor of Business Administration students can major in Accounting to learn the skills to become auditors, tax consultants, public accountants, financial analysts, and other related positions.

SIUC is one of the rare universities to hold accounting accreditation with AACSB. Less than 200 schools worldwide have this specialized accreditation from the most prestigious business accreditation agency.
