University of Louisiana at Monroe was founded in 1931 as Ouachita Parish Junior College. Students will grasp the fundamentals of managerial accounting, decision making, cost behavior, cost systems, budgeting, and responsible accounting. Students are required to complete the coursework in a three year period, and achieve a B grade in each class. Students are eligible for graduate credit if they complete four certificate courses. Elective courses can be chosen from a variety of groups, and three are required.

The Penn State World Campus was first established in 1998 as a response to a need for more credible degree-granting online programs. It is a unique online experience, as it draws from the rich history of excellence of Penn State University. Penn State Worldwide offers a graduate certificate program in Accounting that is entirely online. Students in the program engage with such topics as auditing theory and practice, while also having the opportunity to engage with supplemental coursework that peaks individual interests such as, cost management, reporting, decision making, and financial statements. Students will work with the same renowned Penn State faculty that teach the in-class programming. Students entering the program must have first completed their bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Professionals in the field of accounting are encouraged to apply. The University of Texas at Tyler offers a specialized certificate in Oil, Gas, Energy, and Accounting that can be accomplished entirely online. This unique opportunity provides graduates with a niche that makes them competitive candidates for accounting positions in the energy field. This UT Tyler program is on a fast track and can be completed in 3 semesters. The only prerequisites for the course of study are a Bachelor’s degree in any given major, as well as the completion of both Intermediate Accounting, and the Principles of Finance. Students are invited to achieve this certificate as a stand-alone program, or in tandem with the Master’s program that calls for three electives.
